Plan for the day
  • We will discuss the concept of digital reference and then do a set of live sessions with digital reference resources, during which you may ask questions relevant to your research topic.  Ask your questions to a chat reference service and experience the service yourself.

Select a service from one of the lists below, initiate a chat session, and ask questions related to your research topics.

However, since these are real people and they can only answer one person at at time, let's have half of you use the reference services at a time, while the other half observes and advises.

    Global Digital Reference Services
    Regional Chat Reference Services
    IM librarians at UNC libraries
    • IM a librarian at Davis - davisrefdesk
    • IM a librarian at Undergraduate Library - undergradref
    • IM a librarian at HSL - AskHSLChat
    • IM a librarian at Sciences Libraries - ScienceRefUNC
    • IM a librarian at Math/Physics Library - mathphysicsref
    • IM a librarian at Stone Center Library - stonecenterref
    • IM a librarian at Planning Library - planref

(If you are using a public computer, you may go to www.aol.com and access AIM on the Web. )

Or, if you are interested in a particular library's resources, you can check the library's website and see if they offer chat reference service. If they do, you can chat with their librarians and ask for help.

When you are done with digital reference, you may use this time to explore your databases
