Information Case 3 - Information Quality

Select a data collection questionnaire or tool (form, information card, etc.) that have been designed by an organization to obtain feedback on effectiveness. These may be surveys that are administered online or in paper form.

Spend some time reviewing the mission and goals of the organization so that you understand what it is trying to accomplish. Now, suppose you have been assigned the task of using the form to collect data and report the results.

Analyze the data collection instrument to determine the following:

• Who is likely to receive and complete the questionnaire, and who is not?
• Why has the organization created the questionnaire or survey?
• How would you go about analyzing results in a meaningful way?
• What is likely to be learned from answers submitted?
• What effect are the answers likely to have on the organization?
• How would you redesign the collection tool to gather more useful data?

Summarize your answers to the above questions in a 2 to 5 page paper that also includes a discussion of whether you think the survey or questionnaire is effective and why. If you think there are better ways of gathering the same kind of information, you should explain what that might be. Your answer should take ethical matters into consideration and should be consistent with the organization's culture. Be sure to identify the organization in your discussion.
