Founded and direct the Biomedical Informatics Research, Service and Training Program in the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences, which is co-sponsored by the Health Sciences library. I established a training program in conjunction with this, which annually funds a SILS masters students in an internship program in biomedical informatics at the Health Sciences library.

Chairman of the campus Electronic Theses and Dissertation (ETD) committee. Developed and teach a new course as part of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology curriculum for the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences (GNET 211, Information Science for Bioinformatics). (2003-present).
With Alex Trospha (Pharmacy), Morgan Giddings (BME), and Todd Vision (Biology) initially developed the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) program at UNC, and created the PhD Certificate in Bioinformatics (earned in conjunction with PhD from existing departments) for the campus.
